The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a Canada-wide system designed to give employers and workers information about hazardous materials used in the workplace. The original WHMIS 1988 was updated in 2015. WHMIS 2015 is based on the Global Harmonized System (GHS) and uses pictograms, labelling and safety data sheets that are significantly different from the original WHMIS of 1988. WHMIS was founded on a worker’s right to know what hazards they [you] are working within the workplace! Education is fundamental to WHMIS – workers need training on a regular basis.
